Automated Architecture (AUAR) Ltd is looking for a full-time Full Stack Developer for immediate hire to work on our team developing an innovative 3D web platform for generative building design.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain the web-based design tool suite, including both front-end and back-end components
  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code
  • Collaborate with other team members to integrate server-side logic with user-facing elements
  • Build and maintain APIs for communication between our tools and other systems
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience
  • BSc or BA in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or any relevant field. Practical experience can supersede a degree requirement
  • A deep working knowledge of JavaScript / Typescript and Node.js
  • Experience with modern front-end development tools and frameworks such as React, Angular or Vue.js
  • Grasp of cloud-native software principles
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience building distributed, service-oriented architectures with RESTful APIs
  • Experience using PostgreSQL
  • Experience practicing Agile and Test Driven Development

Nice to Have:

  • Understanding different architectural design patterns and being able to select and plan one
  • Experience with any WebGL frameworks such as Three.js, Babylon.js, or Unity would be an advantage but not essential.
  • C# is a plus but not mandatory
  • Experience in coordinating DevOps
  • Experience with multiple development technologies and knowledge of when patterns are appropriate and solutions are anti-patterns

Language requirements:

  • Fluent in English

Location:

  • Remote (with Right to Work in UK only), although a Bristol or London base is preferred to be able to occasionally work within our existing team locations

Automated Architecture (AUAR) Ltd is looking for a full-time Micro-factory Manager with an architecture, construction or engineering background to work with us on the setup and running of a new micro-factory in Belgium.

Job Description:

Micro-factory Managers at AUAR will work with our team of makers, architects, and engineers to manufacture and deliver our robotically-prefabricated timber houses from our new micro-factory in Aalter (West-Flanders), across sites in Belgium. You will help us set up a new micro-factory with our London-based team and local manufacturing partner. You will oversee our robotics equipment and other digital machines such as CNC cutters. Managing the practical side of every stage of the build, you'll work closely with our architects and other building professionals in planning and delivery. You'll supervise and direct a range of operations in our factory and across our construction sites to ensure that our homes are delivered to an agreed plan, at the highest quality. You’ll feedback knowledge and expertise into AUAR’s system automation team. Being part of a technology-led company, you are proactive, able to work autonomously, and interested in new technical approaches, software tools, and manufacturing processes. Being one of our first hires in Belgium, you will act as AUAR’s advocate in Belgium and represent the company to the wider community. You have a passion for sustainable construction, timber, and technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead our micro-factory and run our robotic setup and other machines such as CNC cutters. We will provide training with ABB robotics and our London team to support you
  • Plan and coordinate a project from start to finish, including organising the schedule of work, costings, and budget, with the support of our London team
  • Oversee the buying of necessary materials and equipment
  • Manage factory prefabrication and project delivery on a day-to-day basis, including supervising the labor force, monitoring subcontractors, checking materials, inspecting work, and overseeing quality control
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget by setting benchmarks, agreeing on budgets, and monitoring progress
  • Check design documents with our architects, surveyors, and engineers
  • Promote and maintain health and safety, including factory and site inspections to ensure safety rules are being followed
  • Produce status reports and document builds
  • Maintain regular communication and attend meetings with clients and their representatives to inform them of progress on the project, i.e. stakeholder management
  • Feedback knowledge and expertise into AUAR’s automated building system, contribute to company Research and Development
  • Creative tinkering and proactive problem-solving with our architects and engineers

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Architecture, Engineering, Construction/Project/Building Management, or Manufacturing background
  • Ability to read plans or 3D files
  • Strong communication skills - for liaising with a range of clients, professionals, and workers
  • Leadership skills and an ability to motivate your team to ensure a high standard of work
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills - for writing and monitoring project plans and schedules and utilising time and resources effectively
  • Resilience and problem-solving skills - in order to overcome unexpected challenges during the manufacturing and construction process
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures and legislation
  • Driving license

Nice to have:

  • Experience with robotics, CNC-cutting, or other digital fabrication methods
  • Experience with 3D-software packages such as Rhino
  • Experience in manufacturing, prefabrication, or modular construction 
  • Experience with timber construction

Language requirements:

  • Fluent in Dutch and English. French or German is an advantage.

Location:

  • Aalter-based. You will need to travel regularly to various locations in Belgium. You will regularly travel to London for meetings and training.

Job Description:

Maker-Builders at AUAR will work with our team of build managers, architects and engineers to manufacture and deliver our prefabricated timber houses at our Aalter-based factory and on sites across Belgium. This involves a wide variety of tasks, from building with our proprietary timber cassette system to running a CNC machine and installing houses on site. AUAR provides technical upskilling in 3D software such as Rhino, CNC-fabrication and the basics of robotics. We are looking for reliable and proactive candidates with experience in making and building and a keen interest in digital fabrication. This role is open to anyone who wishes to work with timber construction and digital fabrication, including applicants with a background in trades, the arts, wood working, making, manufacturing or architecture. 

Responsibilities:

  • Manufacture our proprietary timber cassettes, window frames and other building components assisted by digital fabrication equipment such as CNC machines and industrial robots
  • Installing finishes, cladding and building envelopes, such as EPDM roof finish
  • Installing basic electrics
  • Installing prefabricated building segments on site 
  • Checking design documents with micro-factory manager, architects, surveyors and engineers
  • Tinkering alongside our architects and engineers, developing solutions for our building systems and contributing to company Research and Development
  • Assisting our build manager and architects in preparing building documentation, schedules and procurement
  • Keeping our workshop and factory organised, safe and tidy
  • Adhering to health and safety requirements in our workshop and on building sites

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in one of the following: trades/construction, wood working, making, manufacturing, industrial design,  architecture, set design/building, or engineering 
  • The ability to do physical labour 
  • Ideally you’ll have experience in timber construction, carpentry, and/or digital fabrication, know your way around a workshop, and know how to handle various machines and hand-tools
  • Degrees are not required, as long as you have proven practical experience with any area of work listed above
  • A valid driving licence 

Nice to have:

  • If you know how to use 3D software, a CNC machine or other digital fabrication methods, great! If not, we will train you up and help you develop your skills
  • An interest in timber construction would be great, as that’s our primary building material
